Homer, Ill., July 22.—Silas B. Ball, an old and highly respected resident of Homer, is dead from paralysis, after an illness dating back four years when he suffered a severe stroke which practically incapacitated him from active business life and from the effects of which whenever recovered.
Mr. Ball was a member of the dry goods firm of Ball & Hess, but he had taken no active part in business since the attack of paralysis. He came to Homer in 1876 and had been in the dry goods business ever since. He was first engaged in business with S. R. Hopkins, to whom he sold out to buy the business of B. M. Custer. About ten years ago he formed a partnership with Fred Hess.
From 1889 to 1895 Mr. Ball was a member of the board of supervisors from Homer township and served as chairman of the board, in which capacity he was extremely popular. He is survived by a wife but no children, a daughter having died years ago.
Funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of blue lodge of Homer Masons, of which he was a member. Members of the board of supervisors who served with him will attend the services.
