Chris was my uncle. He was the son of Leroy and Edna Hilliard, twin of Christine. The ex-husband of Nancy Wright and the father of Matthew Hilliard. He was excellent dad, when he and Nancy divorced, he was awarded custody of Matt.
He joined the Marine Corp in 1971. It seemed he no sooner graduated from boot camp that he was deployed to Vietnam. I wrote him everyday for the eighteen months he was in Vietnam. Every letter ended, and sometimes only said, "I love you, I miss you, come home soon". When he could he would write back and every letter ended with "I love you and miss you back. I will be home before you can miss me again."
Chris died from a self inflicted gun shot wound.
