Antonia E. Grotewold, daughter of Jacob Bender and Elizabeth Laucht Bender, was born in Benton County, Iowa, October 24, 1872. In the early nineties she came to Lyon County and for approximately 70 years made her home in Larchwood.
On February 10, 1897, she was married to Christ Grotewold of Larchwood.
Mrs. Grotewold passed away the evening of July 3rd, 1961 at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mrs. And Mrs. F. A. Kruse.
Services were held from the Congregational Church in Larchwood Thursday, July 6, with the Rev. Gilbert Cook officiating. The Vogelaar Funeral Service of George were in charge of arrangements.
Antonia was preceded in death by her husband Christ, her parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Survivors are three sons, two daughters, 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, a brother, and a number of nieces and nephews; besides many other relatives and a host of friends who mourn her death.
