Jacob "Jack" Marinus Markesteyn, 71, died Sunday, June 22, 2003 at Memorial Health University Medical Center. He was a native of Ogden, Utah and lived in Savannah most of his life.

Mr. Markesteyn was a graduate of Savannah High School and later attended Armstrong State University. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the United States Airforce and received the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Mr. Markesteyn later transferred to the 165th Civil Engineering Squadron of the Air National Guard and retired as Staff Sergeant in 1987. He was also a retired commercial refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic.

Mr. Markesteyn was an avid fisherman and bowler and was a member of the Victory New Breed Bowling League.

Surviving: wife, Jeannette Markesteyn of Savannah; a son, William Markesteyn of Savannah; three daughters, Helen Markesteyn Gonzales of Alcalde, N.M., Deanna S. Markesteyn of Pittsburg, Penn., and Angel Markesteyn of Alcalde, N.M.; two stepdaughters, Jacqueline Billetter of Savannah and Stacy Handy of Sandy Hook, Va.; three brothers, William Markesteyn of Savannah, Freddie Markesteyn of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Johnny Markesteyn of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Gladys Scherer of Orlando, Fla. and Mildred Harris of Sanford, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Miranda Markesteyn of Savannah, Sonya and Akili Gonzales of Alcalde, N. M., William Shane Creepingbear of Pittsburg, Penn., Dustin Mapel of Pittsburg, Pennn., Jennifer Whalley of Savannah, Christopher Ennis of Savannah, and Jason Ennis of Savannah; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m, Tuesday at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel. Funeral services: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday in the Chapel of Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel. Remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Hubert C.
