Ralph Alvin Taylor, age 89, passed away on May 5, 2011.
He was born August 6, 1921 in Mendon, Utah to Oliver and Ethel Taylor. He attended school in Cache Valley. He served an LDS mission to the Western States where he met and fell in love with a sister missionary, Marcia Checketts. Upon their return home they were married in the Logan Temple. Ralph was called to serve in the Marine Corp, during World War II, three months after their marriage.
Upon returning from the war, they lived in Salt Lake City, Magna, and Hunter. During retirement, they lived in Mesa, AZ and St. George, UT. The last three years of his life were spent living with his daughter Rozana and son-in-law Gary in South Jordan.
Ralph was a faithful member of the LDS Church his entire life. Ralph worked for Kennecott Copper as a security guard for over thirty-two years retiring in 1983. He was a good athlete and especially enjoyed basketball. As a skilled carpenter, he built new homes from start to finish and after retirement he enjoyed building custom furniture for his family.
Horses were his hobby. He raised, bred, trained and showed American Registered Paint horses for many years. He also served on the Days of 47 Rodeo Committee for over twenty-five years. Ralph had an amazing sense of humor that will be missed by all who knew him, especially his family.
Ralph is survived by his five children: Linda Taylor, St. George, Susanna (Lee) Jones, St. George, Larry (Barbara) Taylor, South Jordan, Roger (Pam) Taylor, Geyserville, CA and Rozana (Gary) Wilkey, South Jordan; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one 1/4 great-grandchildren; and his twin brother, Ray Taylor. He was preceded in death by his wife Marcia, a sister, two brothers, and a grandson.
Funeral Services will held on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South. The family will receive friends at a viewing beginning 10:00 a.m. prior to the services.
