Ethel Fay Goring was born on a farm in the Columbus neighborhood of Johnson County on Nov. 12, 1915, to Otha and Mary (Wilson) Middleton. She passed away on May 1, 2011, at the County Club Care Center in Warrensburg.

Ethel attended a one-room country school near her home by walking or riding horseback. Following grade school, she joined her older sister in Warrensburg where they shared a room in a boarding house and attended Training High School. She graduated from high school in 1933.

On Nov. 15, 1933, she married James Kenneth Akers of Holden. To this union, one child was born, Betty Lou (Akers) Lamb. Mr. Akers passed away at an early age on May 19, 1936, leaving her to raise her daughter with the love and support of her parents.

While working as a waitress at the Estes Hotel Coffee Shop, she met her second husband, Orville Gilbert Goring. They were married on Feb. 4, 1939, in Lexington. To this union, one child was born, Terry Lee Goring. While living in Higginsville, they supported the war effort by working at the Lake City Arsenal Ammunition Plant. Following the war, they purchased a farm in the Columbus neighborhood where they raised their family. Following the death of Mr. Goring on Nov. 4, 1975, Ethel moved to Warrensburg, where she remained until her death.

Ethel had a serving heart and a kind, loving spirit.She loved and nurtured her family in so many ways. She was a member of the Jacoby Chapel Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Warrensburg Chapter of the Ladies Elks.

Ethel Fay Goring is survived by her children, Betty Lamb of Warrensburg and Terry Goring and wife, Judy, of Ballwin; six grandchildren, Deanna James of Raymore, Anita Ellis and husband, Roger, of Centerview; Cindy Paneitz and husband. Roger, of Liberty, Shelly Beckemeier and husband, Tim, Mark Goring, Dan Goring and wife, Virginia, all of Ballwin; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Dorothy Marr, and husband, Galen, and many nieces and nephews.

Ethel was preceded in death by both parents; a sister, Mala Bryant; and a great-granddaughter, Nicole Hobbs.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 6, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg with the Rev. Alex Wales officiating.

Pallbearers will be Mark Goring, Dan Goring, Tim Beckemeier, Paul Fields, Forrest Brown and Wesley Powell.

Burial will be at Union Cemetery at Jacoby Chapel.
