James R. Fuidge, 78, of Clinton, died Sunday at Mercy North Hospital, Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Community Congregational Church. The Rev. Ron Lott will be officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Lemke Funeral Home, 2304 N. Second Street. A Masonic Rose Croix service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Wednseday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Springdale Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Clinton AMVETS. Pallbearers will be Robert McColley, Roger Dierks, Mark Ebensberger, Jeff Campbell, Chad Baker, Thomas Cannon, Orlin Campbell, Ray Foley and Lyle Pelham.

He was born June 1, 1925, in Evanston, Ill., to Rhys and Lauretta McDaniel Fuidge. He was raised by his stepfather, Ray Olmer, Lauretta McDaniel Olmer and his grandmother, Florence McDaniel. In 1945, he married Verta Gerlich. She died in 1984. He then married Jo Ann Campbell McColley on June 15, 1984. He served in the Coast Guard during WWII. He was rated SIC Radar and served 18 months of sea duty. He was in the American-European-Asiatic Pacific Theatre aboard the U.S.S. Gladwyn. He retired from the Clinton Corn Processing Co., after 32 years in the sales department. Prior to working with Clinton Corn, he was an office manager with the Burpee Seed Co., and worked with Pure Oil, Chicago. During his retirement, he drove for more that 15 years and received awards from the Clinton County Senior Citizens Meal Site Association. He was also a parking officer with the city of Clinton. He was a bus monitor with the Clinton Schools and worked with Talent Tree at Mercy Medical Center. He was a member of the Community Congregational Church for 54 years. He was chairman of the Building Committee for the Chirstian Eduacation Building, chairman of the Diaconate Board, board of trustees and the council for the church. He served on the Council of Churches Ministerial Board and was a member of the Eastern Iowa Association UCC Conference. He was a mason at the Clinton Masonic Lodge 255. He received a certificate for a 50 year membership. He was a former Skyline board member, MTA board member, mental health board member and member of the Clinton High School Booster Parents Board. He was a former volunteer with the sheriff's department; he monitored Eagle Point Park. He was a former Jaycee member.

Survivors include his wife. Jo Ann of Clinton; a daughter, Nancy Fuidge of Clinton; a son, Jeffrey Fuidge of Alberquerque, N.M., three stepchildren, Robert L. (Angela) McColley of Dubuque, Mrs. Tammy (Mark) Ebensberger of Clinton, Roger L. (Susan) Dierks of Clinton; two grandsons; and two granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, grandmother and his first wife. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Community Congregational Church or to the American Cancer Society.
