Hattie M. Gappa, 97 of Grand Island died Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.

Hattie was born June 23, 1913, in Rockville to Robert and Helen (Badura) Peters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund Gappa, three sons, Gerald, Lonnie and Richard.

Survivors are: sons and two daughters-in-law, Wayne and Kathy Gappa of Kearney, DeWayne and Helen Gappa of Woodbury, Minn., and Larry Gappa of Grand Island; daughter, Darlene Matzinger of Parker, Colo.; 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Hattie was united in marriage to Edmund Gappa in 1935 in Wyoming. The couple was blessed with seven children. Hattie was a very caring person always putting others before herself. She loved children especially her 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Hattie was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Grand Island.

Hattie was also preceded in death by two grandsons and a son-in-law.
