SWAIM - Mrs. Lelia Mentora Swaim was born Feb. 19th, 1859, and departed this life May 10th, 1892.
She was the daughter of Wm. O. and M. R. Smith, who had taught her from the very beginning to fear God and keep his commandments. She is one of a large family, and I believe they are all devoted members of the church. They seem to have a genius for religion.
As a result of early training the subject of this sketch was converted and joined the Methodist Church at the age of eleven under the ministry of Rev. R. T. N. Stephenson. The claim that those who are converted when young, make the most pious and most useful church members was so in her case.
She was united in holy matrimony to W. Frank Swaim, May 15th, 1884, and lived most happily with her husband till the day of her death. She found her happiness in living God and the church, in making home pleasant, and giving herself for the good of others. She was often found at the parsonage and the preacher and his wife are among the bereaved, and have joined the family and friends in mourning their common loss.
Religion had removed that fear which hath torment; she was afraid of neither death nor judgement. An interview with her husband and mother a short time before her death was in keeping with the above statement. When the last hour came all was well, there was not a struggle, it was an impressive scene, the angels came to see it; more, the Savior was there to bear the soul of this dying disciple to the house of many mansions, to the habitation of the good. She is at home.
