I. M. Bass Dies After Suffering Stroke at Lorena
Widely Known Wacoan Succumbs Few Hours After Being Suddenly Taken Ill
Ivan M. Bass, resident of Waco 25 years and prominent in many activities here, died at 4:10 p.m. Thursday in a local sanitarium after he had been taken suddenly ill Thursday morning at Lorena. He resided at 516 North Twenty-third street.
Mr. Bass had been employed by the Western States Grocery company and its predecessors here for the last 17 years, and was working of the company Thursday morning when he became ill. He was treated at Lorena and then brought to the Waco sanitarium.
An Active Church Worker
He was prominent in church and fraternal work. He was a member and a deacon of Columbus Avenue Baptist church and was on the reception committee of the Down Town Bible class. He was a member of Fidelis lodge, A. F. and A. M.; was a Knight Templar and a member of the U. C. T. association.
Surviving are his widow; two sons, Roy Byrn Bass and Jarman Bass of Waco; two brothers, S. D. Bass of Shelbyville, Tenn., and Elwyn Bass of Beckly, W. Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Brown and Mrs. Hassel Jennings of Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Burial in Tennessee
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Columbus Avenue Baptist church, Rev. C. E. Hereford officiating. The body will be taken to the church to lie in state an hour before the service. The body will be sent to Murfreesboro, Tenn., for burial. Car has charge of services.
Pallbearers will be L. B. Smyth, Walter Mize of McGregor, O. M. Weatherby, D. P. Wallace, S. M. English, Joe Valentine, Mike Yates, Dr. H, Clay Watson. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Columbus Avenue Baptist church, and all friends.
