William Whitfield Nash was born the son of Abner and Betsy Nash in Abbeville District South Carolina on the second day of November 1801. When he was a youth his parents moved the family to Lowndes County, Mississippi, just a little south of Columbus on the Tombigbee River. The family built, owned, and operated a ferry service crossing the Tombigbee River from the Mississippi side into Pickens County, Alabama. This place would later become known as Nashville Landing.

In 1826 W.W. Nash married Miss Nancy (Right/Wright) Dotson of the Pickens County, Alabama. After his marriage W.W. moved to Pickens County, Alabama where he began farming. Not long after starting his farm W.W. began to minister the gospel to his friends and neighbors and became a minister of the gospel, a Missionary Baptist. He continued to farm and preach. In the fall of 1847 he purchased a farm 3 miles north of the city of Kosciusko in Attala County, Mississippi where he resided until the year 1867.

While living in Attala County he established the very first church of the County "The First Baptist Church" in Kosciusko in 1848. He rode a circuit to preach the gospel to not only the residents of Attala County but also the neighboring counties. He would hold church service out on the countryside where he would preach, perform marriages, give last rites at burials, perform baptisms and carry out other duties of a minister of the gospel. He became known simply as the "Reverend". While serving Attala County he preached over 2700 sermons, baptized no less than 500 souls and assisted in organizing and establishing numerous churches in this section of the country.

In 1867 he and his extended family moved to Calvert, Robertson County, Texas where he continued to preach and bring his fellow man to the Lord until his death on Sept 9th 1871.

There is a bibliography of Rev. William Whitfield Nash in "Mississippi Baptist Preachers" by Lovelace Savidge Foster, published in 1895.
