DODGE CITY - John P. Perrier, 96, died April 30, 2011 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains, Dodge City. He was born on July 24, 1914 at Olpe the son of John P. and Clara (Fraser) Perrier.
John graduated from Emporia High School in 1933 and from Kansas State University in 1939. He majored in agriculture and was a member of the KSU livestock judging team and the TKE fraternity. On October 2, 1939, he married Dorothy Jane Bell in Manhattan. She preceded him in death on May 2, 2002. John served as the Ellis County agriculture agent from 1939 to 1941. He was the Ford County agriculture agent from 1941 to 1946. John began farming operations and established Perrier Feedlot in 1960 which is still in operation.
Mr. Perrier served on the Board of Directors of the First National Bank, High Plains Dress Beef, Kansas State Foundation, State Agriculture Stabilization Committee as well as other local and state committees. John and Dorothy were strong supporters of the academic and sports programs at Kansas State University.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dodge City.
John is survived by a son, John W. Perrier of Dodge City; a daughter, Roberta (Bobby Ann) Bonar and husband Vern of Shawnee; four grandchildren, Bryan Bonar, Erik Bonar, Jennifer Ann Perrier-Gilliland, and Dr. Thane Perrier; two great grandchildren, Jackson and Weston Gilliland; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
Funeral service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 10:30 AM. Entombment will follow at Scroggins Mausoleum in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 from Noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Hospice to the Praire, KSU Foundation Scholorship for Ford County student, or First Presbyterian Church Friendship Feast all in care of the funeral home.
