Paul Balko of 2868 Valley View Road, Sharpsville, passed away peacefully at 3:05 a.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011, in Countryside Convalescent Home, East Lackawannock Township, after an extended illness. He was 90.

Mr. Balko was born Nov. 29, 1920, in Hermitage to John Balko Sr. and Kathryn Hilko Balko.

He retired in 1980 as a maintenance department worker at Delphi Packard Electric Systems,
Warren, Ohio. Previously he worked for 27 years at the former Sharon Transformer Division
of Westinghouse Electric Corp.

As a proud Marine Corps veteran, Mr. Balko served from 1942-44 in the South Pacific
during World War II.

He was an avid gardener and enjoyed raccoon hunting. For many years, he enjoyed going to horse shows to watch his son show horses.
Paul had been a member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows Walnut Lodge 739, Sharpsville, and belonged to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church
in Hermitage.

His wife, the former Barbara Yaksich, whom he married Sept. 30, 1941, died March 23, 2000.

Surviving are his son, Dr. John Balko and his wife Marsha, Hermitage; two nieces, Dorothy
Paulson, Sharon; and Kathy Leali, Hermitage; and a nephew, Andrew Balko and his wife Barbara, Hermitage.

Besides his wife, Paul was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, John, Andrew,
Joe and Albert W. Balko; and an infant, George Balko; and two sisters, Helen Zieminick
and Anna Emery.
