Ann was born on November 14, 1909, in San Antonio, Texas to proud parents Samuel Edmond Alder, Sr., and May Mamie Jones Alder. She was the third child of five in the family and enjoyed growing up in San Antonio with her siblings.

Ann's first marriage was to William Claud Rogers on February 25, 1925, when she was 15. Her 26-year-old husband William was born on August 28, 1898, in the Indian Territory (now Ardmore, Oklahoma). William worked as a chemist in a San Antonio lab. Ann and William had two sons before their marriage became unhappy. They divorced on October 11, 1933, soon after their second son's birth. By mid-April 1940, William was working as a store keeper for the Army in Honolula, Hawaii. Back in Texas by 1940, Ann had brought her two sons to live with her parents and her aunt. She worked to maintain the household as an executive secretary for the railroad. Her ex-husband William died on June 4, 1941, on the Island of Oahu in Hawaii. He was buried in the Diamond Head Memorial Park.

Ann's second marriage was to Robert Lord Harrison on July 6, 1940. She was 30 and he was 27 when they married. He was born on April 13, 1913, in Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa. He made the U. S. Army his career and rose to the rank of Colonel, serving in the Adjutant General Corps during World War I and Korea. Robert died on March 18, 1964, in Arlington County, Virginia, and was buried in the Arlington National Cemetery.

Ann herself lived to be 86, dying on January 24, 1988, in San Antonio. She was buried in Coker Cemetery in San Antonio.
