SAMUEL L. GEORGE
Samuel Lawrence George, 58, Savonburg, died at 2:35 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Mount Carmel Medical Center in Pittsburg. He was a self-employed carpenter and farmer.
He was born at Sheldon, Mo., Oct. 17, 1920, the son of Sterling George and Minnie I. Duggins. He married Lucille Baker on July 6, 1946, at Redfield. He was a member of the Chanute Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Surviving are the widow of the home; five children: Leon George of Stark, Kan., Larry George of Savonburg, Mrs. Gary (Linda) Fewins of Moran, Mrs. Carl (Patricia) Cole of Iola and Mrs. Sandra Henderson of Tulsa, Okla.
Mr. and Mrs. George reared a niece and nephew, Mrs. Paul (Belita) Ward of Pauls Valley, Okla., and Keith Baker of Uniontown.
There are also two brothers, Ray George of Phoenix, Ariz., and Les George of Uniontown; five sisters: Mrs. Velma Garwood of Nevada, Mrs. Margaret Lightner of Sheldon, Mrs. Ellen Cowker [sic; should be Bowker] of Irwin, Mo., Mrs. Martha Gordon of Lamar, Mo., and Mrs. Ruth Holland of Arcadia.
There are eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Uniontown Baptist Church, the Rev. Deane Endicott officiating. Burial will be in Fort Scott National Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
