Doris Mae (Thames) Wall, age 92, died April 28 at Brittany Manor in Midland, MI. Doris was a life-long resident of Hattiesburg until she moved to Michigan in 2007 to be near her granddaughter.

Doris was born in Hattiesburg, MS on January 14, 1919, the second of six children born to Frank and Mae (Clearman) Thames. After her mother's death in 1926, Doris was raised in Richburg by her maternal grandparents James and Emma (Giles) Clearman. As a child, she attended Richburg Baptist Church and graduated from Oak Grove High School. On November 4, 1939, she married Reese Germany "Pete" Wall. The house that Pete, a carpenter, built before World War II using recycled lumber from a demolished house still stands on the corner of Wall Avenue and Alice Drive near Lincoln Road in Hattiesburg. Pete and Doris had two children, Donald Reese Wall and Betty Marlene (Wall) Yontz. They also raised their nephew Gibson Carter.

Doris was an avid gardener and was known for her large garden of azaleas, which appeared in a photograph in the Hattiesburg American several years ago. She stayed active and continued to cut her lawn until she was in her mid-80's. Doris was a founding member of South 28th Avenue Baptist Church and played the piano for the church services for more than thirty years. She rarely missed a church service, Sunday morning, Sunday evening, or Wednesday, until age and infirmity made it difficult for her to continue her attendance. Doris lived in her home in Hattiesburg for more than 60 years until her dementia required the oversight and care of a nursing home facility. In 2006 her granddaughter Dorie was granted letters of conservatorship for Doris' care and in 2007, Doris moved to Midland, Michigan, to be near her.

Doris is survived by her son, Don of Hattiesburg; nephew Gib Carter of Bay St. Louis; granddaughter Dorie Yontz (husband Erich Levinson), now of Bloomington, MN; grandson R. Reese Yontz (wife Betheny) of Michie, TN; grandson Matthew L. Yontz (wife Jennifer) of Hattiesburg; granddaughter Wendy (Wall) of Hattiesburg; grandson Graham Wall; and several great-grandchildren: Alexander Q. Levinson (Dorie); Kathryn E. Yontz (Reese); Mitchell L. and Levi D. Yontz (Matthew). She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Marlene, and all of her siblings: Frances Acosta, Emma Jean Stratton, Frank Thames, Jr., Tommy Thames, and William Thames.

Services will be Monday, May 2, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg followed by burial in Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, May 1, 2011 from 5:30 - 8 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg.
