US Congressman. Born in Springfield, Tennessee, he was successful in mercantile pursuits, stock raising and the operation of a cotton gin. He was a member of the Tennessee State House of Representatives in 1833, a member of the Tennessee State constitutional convention in 1834 and served as a General in the Tennessee State militia. In 1837, he was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-fifth Congress, serving until 1839. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he returned to his former business interests until his death at age 46 in White’s Creek Springs, Tennessee.
