William Taylor was born on December 24, 1776, in Antrim, Northern Ireland. He fled to America due to being hunted for striking a British officer during the Rebellion of 1796-98. He landed in Philadelphia and worked his way to Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. There he met and married Ann Wilson, a farmer's daughter, in 1802. In 1808, they moved to Beaver County in a two-horse wagon with their four children and all their worldly possessions. In 1815, he bought a farm near Enon, where seven more children were born.
Their 11 children were: John Taylor (1802-1890), Joseph W Taylor (1804-1877), Samuel Taylor (1806-1888), William Taylor (1808-1885), Mary Taylor (1810-1832), Martha Taylor Stewart (1811-1851), Nancy Taylor (1813-1851), Anne Taylor Young (1815-1880), Thomas M Taylor (1818-1898), Sarah Eliza Taylor Sampson (1820-1897), Eleanor Taylor Ramsey (1823-1890).
