Loris, Jan. 2 - George Monroe Fowler, 88, a prominent retired farmer, died at the Loris Hospital Saturday at 6:15 a.m. after an illness of six weeks.

Funeral services will be held at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Ralph Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at Princeville Cemetery directed by the Hardwick Funeral Home.

Friends may call at the home of Walker Fowler until 2 p.m. Sunday, at which time the body will be taken to the church where it will lie in state until the hour of service.

Active pallbearers will be grandsons W.G. Fowler, George O. Fowler, Frank Fowler, Gilbert Fowler, Everett Fowler, L.H. Fowler, and "Bo" Fowler.

Surviving are four sons, Harvey Fowler, Wilbur Fowler, Wofford Fowler and Clinch Fowler all of Loris; one daughter, Mrs. Hubert O'Brien of Columbia; 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Mr. Fowler was born in Horry County, Nov. 23, 1865, a son of the late Wright and Caroline Fowler. He was a lifelong resident of this county. He was magistrate of Green Sea Township for several years and very active in the community and county affairs. He was married to the former Miss Cora Jane Stanley, who died June 28, 1928. For several years Mr. Fowler taught in the public schools.
