harbor to act as hostages while
the ship was moored in the harbor.
These men became known as the
Immortal 600 for what they went
through. (Starvation, exposure to
the elements, disease, packed
quarters.) Col. Cantwell was a
Member of the Immortal 600.
Responsible for keeping list
of those 600 who suffered under
the Guns in Charleston Harbor.
