"Dr. David W Brodnax moved with his family from Virginia to Texas in the fifties. Notwithstanding his scholarly attainments he was of a speculative turn of mind, and moved from place to place until he settled in old Milano [sic], where he resided for many years, considering it the Mecca of his Texas dreams. Here he lived and was buried; and while he failed to retrieve his lost fortune he was contented with his books, his family, his friends. He was a gentleman of the old school -- a graduate of the University of Virginia, and, in recognition of his talents, shortly before his death the University faculty made request for his photograph which has been done in oil and now hangs on the walls of that grand institution, here his kindly looks, intellectual brown and noble name will be a 'proud heritage to far off generations.' He was a devout Episcopalian. In early manhood he established the family altar and his home was ever the stopping place of bishops, priests and deacons.” [excerpt from his wife's obit]
