Evelyn L. Smith, 92, died Dec. 17, 2009.

Born Feb. 7, 1917 in Rush County, she was the daughter of Earl Harton and Lillian (Hurst) Harton, both deceased. She married Rea "Pat" Smith Oct. 7, 1936; he preceded her in death May 3, 1988.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She was a 1935 graduate of Rushville High School. She was a member of Main Street Christian Church, a former member of the Tri Kappa Sorority, and active in the Rush County 4-H Committee work and at the Gings School while her daughters were in school. She also was a volunteer at Rush Memorial Hospital and a member of the RHS Alumni Association.

Survivors include daughters, Sharon (Michael) Cox of Muncie and Virginia (Phil) Martin of Richmond; grandchildren, Matthew (Cindee) Cox of Muncie and Millicent Martin of Richmond; and three great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one brother, Lowell Harton, and one sister, Emily Harton Smith.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Moster Mortuary in Rushville. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to Main Street Christian Church, 334 N. Main St., Rushville, IN 46173.

Arrangements are being handled by Moster Mortuary.
