She was always known as Katie or Kate , growing up in Elko county was not always easy and Katie longed to go out on her own.
Kate's mother Mary went into the Asylum, at Glendale, Washoe, Nevada before 1900 and died there in 1917.
Kate left home soon after 1901 and headed to San Francisco to begin her career in teaching.
She never married and spent the rest of her life teaching. She rented a home in San Francisco ran it as a boarding house. There was a dentist, a photographer and a company manager that boarded there, all divorced or single men and women. Most boarding homes rented only to singles.
