Born January 24, 1915 in Lewiston, Utah to Andrew William and Emma Elaine Hillyard Hyer. He was the oldest son in a family of 10 children. He was student body president of North Cache High School and graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelors in Agriculture.
He married Ruth V. Christensen on July 2, 1943 in the Salt lake Temple and shared his life with her for 55 years. She died August 25, 1998. They raised three girls together.
He found a special partner in Joyce Halls and they were married in the Jordan River Temple on March 28, 2002. They have had a wonderful eight years of joy and happiness together.
Maurice was a produce buyer for Safeway foods for many years and then sold Real Estate with Keys and Terrell Realty. He later joined the Men's Department at ZCMI; and retired at the age of eighty from Macy's.
He was an avid sports fan especially Utah State Basketball and Football and Skyline High School, he loved gardening, but was probably most known for his efforts to come to people's aid with his selfless generosity, often times giving more of himself than was comfortable. He lived an honest simple life and held himself and those close to him to high standards. He will be deeply missed by his family and community.
He is survived by his wife; Joyce, daughters, Kathleen (Kary) Richins, Venette Griffiths Orr, Janet (Kevin) Luke; step-children, Linda (Pat) Williams, Sandra (Mike) Neubauer, Peggy (Gar) Anderson, Cindy Phelps (Dale Brown) and Steve (Brenda) Phelps; 35 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren; brother, Earl H.
