Passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday April 28, 2011 at her residence in New Hamburg. Velma was born 80 years ago in East Zorra Township and was the daughter of the late Michael & Sarah (Baechler) Jutzi. Beloved wife of the late David E. Gerber who predeceased her in 1989. Loving mother of Larry Gerber & Sabrina Enz of Coquitlam, B.C.. Dear sister of Hilda & husband Elmer L. Wagler of New Hamburg, Esther & husband Howard Schwass of Tavistock, Mary Ellen & husband Emmanuel Brubacher of Elmira and step-brother Nelson & wife Barbara Zehr of Wellesley, step-sisters Laurene Roth of Tavistock and Catherine Zehr of Kitchener. Velma was predeceased by a stillborn son, step-mother Druscilla (Bender) Jutzi, brother Lloyd in infancy, sisters Alice & husband Elmer B. Wagler, Ruby & husband Vernon Roth, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Glenn Roth, Robert Schiedel, Mary & husband John Yantzi, Annie & husband David Yantzi, Sam & wife Edna Gerber, Lena & husband Dan Brenneman, John & wife Elizabeth Gerber, Emma & husband Ezra Brenneman, Dan & wife Laura Gerber, Katie & husband Ezra Steckly, Chris & wife Katie Gerber and Amos Gerber.
Velma was a member of East Zorra Mennonite Church and also the Haysville Sunshine Club. She enjoyed crocheting, games, surfing the internet and volunteering at Nithview Welcome Teas.
Family and friends may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg on Saturday April 30 from 7-9 p.m. and again Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.. The funeral service will be held on Monday May 2, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at East Zorra Mennonite Church. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to Nithview Community, Christian Aid Ministries or Canadian Cancer Society.
