Dana New, 56 of Hillsboro died Wednesday, October 30, at her residence. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 2, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Dr. Allan Lane and Gary
Parker officiating. Entombment followed at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. She was born July 21, 1946 in Hillsboro, daughter of J.D. and Alma Gravitt New. She grew up in Hillsboro and attended Hillsboro schools,
graduating in 1964. During her early years in Hillsboro, she was active in the Central Baptist Church and was baptized as a teenager. After high school, she went to Hill College and Sam Houston State University before finishing college and earning her degree from Baylor University in Waco. She taught school after college until accepting a management position with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, working in Oklahoma City, Arkansas and St. Louis, settling in Fort Worth and retiring in December of 1991. During her working years, She was a fund raiser for several charitable organizations, including causes that supported education and research for cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer's as well as such organizations as Toys For Tots, fire department and many more. Survivors include: her mother, Alma New of Hillsboro; one brother, Randy New and wife, Rhonda, of Fort Worth; and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, J.D. New, February
24, 2001.
