Mr. Borowiak died Friday afternoon at the Fairmont Community Hospital. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. to noon Monday at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Fairmont. There will be a Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Sylvester Borowiak was born Dec. 3, 1914 in Silver Lake Township. He attended District 92 rural school. He farmed with his parents in Silver Lake Township prior to his marriage to Pearl Wegner on Sept. 22, 1938, at East Chain. They farmed for eight years before he went to work for the Farmer's Creamery. He also worked for Weber's Standard Service and also drove a school bus. He was a gas station attendant for Harvey Meschke's City Service. He returned to Silver Lake Township to farm in the early 1950s and moved back to Fairmont in 1969, when he went to work for Midland Co-op. He retired at the age of 61. He was well-known in the southern Minnesota and northern Iowa area as the leader of the Silver Tunes. He was also an usher at St. John Vianney Church for many years and was active in the church choir in East Chain for many years. He was a Fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was past Grand Knight. He was a member of the Eagles Club and the Martin County Conservation Club.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Raymond of California City, Calif., Gene of Fairmont; daughters, Mrs. Bill (Rosalie) Kaatz of Lake Crystal, Mrs, Chuck (Carol) Carlson of Fairmont; nine grandchildren; brother, Albert of Fairmont; sisters, Mrs. LeRoy (Clara) Leeper of St. Paul, Mrs. Nick (Jean) Brockman of Fairmont.
