This time he settled in Crawford County and was soon united in marriage to Miss Lydia Springer, who was to be his helpmate for a long and useful life. He was the father of fourteen children, the grandfather of fifty-five and the great-grandfather of 25. In 1845 he united with the M.E. Church, and up to the day of his death was a zealous and consistent member. He was a regular attendant upon the duties of the church, and from its teachings derived that hope of blessed immortality which made his last days his best. When he was called to join the innumerable hosts above, his eyes closed in a beautiful sleep, and his soul departed to the God who gave it, and to the happiness that awaits the true Christian beyond this vail of tears. In the death of "Uncle Jimmie" our country sustains the loss of one of its oldest and best citizens, and his family loses a kind father and a noble husband.
