Mary Jane graduated from Wapello High School in 1939 and went to the Burlington School of Cosmetology. She worked in cosmetology for a few years and then cut hair for her family and friends. She farmed with her husband Ralph. Later she worked at Whichers Jewelry, then Patrick's True Value, the Wapello Sale Barn, and the Wapello Veterinary Clinic.
She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wapello and taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon. She was a member of Chapter G, T.T.T. of Wapello and the VFW Auxiliary in Wapello. She had been a 4-H leader. She loved square dancing, sewing, and games of all kinds. She enjoyed spending her winters in Texas. Her family was always first.
Her surviving family includes her husband Will Borchardt of Wapello; two daughters, Ruth & Lloyd Meyerholz of Wapello and Alene & Phil Neas of Westcliffe, Colorado; three grandchildren, Stephanie & James Gipple, Derek & Lynn Neas, and Emily & Jason Puffett; seven great-grandchildren, Megan, Kara, and Dillon Gipple, Matthew and Graham Neas, and Sammy and Cooper Puffett; and three brothers, Jack Dotson and Lee Dotson, both of Wapello, and Glen Dotson of Phoenix, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Ralph; a grandson, Lance; and a brother, Philip Dotson.
The funeral ceremony for Mary Jane Scheihing-Borchardt will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church in Wapello, with Pastor Erv Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery. Family and friends will gather for a lunch following the committal.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the First Presbyterian Church and the Great River Hospice.
