U.S. Congressman. Moving to Kansas, he attended Highland University and was a teacher in a country school near Highland, (1898-1900). He graduated from the law department of the University of Kansas, in 1903, was admitted to the bar and commenced the practice of law in St. Joseph, Missouri. He also was the city counselor of St. Joseph, (1915-19). In 1921, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-seventh Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until his death at age 49.
