Jose Lopez Valdez, 100, died Sunday, April 24, 2011, at a local nursing center. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00am on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at St. Francis Catholic Church celebrated by Father Maxim Fernandes. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday, April 27, 2011 starting at 6:00pm with a Rosary at 7:00pm at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St., Abilene, Texas.
Jose was born August 27, 1910 to Alvino and Santiaga Lopez in Monterrey N.L. Mexico. He grew up being a very loving and caring person. Jose loved to work at the church and was a member of the Cursillo De Colores organization. He was self-employed as a welder.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers Tiburcio, Antonio, Jesus and Leon Valdez; his sisters Paz, Maria, Juanita Valdez and Dolores Gaytan.
Survivors include one brother Manuel Valdez of Abilene and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis Catholic Church, 826 Cottonwood, Abilene, TX 79601.
