Miss Lovilla Etta Lockwood, aged 65 years died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Lucinda Smith, near Sabetha, Kansas, on Wednesday, September 2th. Death was due to a stroke of apoplexy. As related in the Call, Miss Lockwood left Beloit early this summer on a trip planned to include visits to a number of relatives, but got no farther than Sabetha, where she was the guest of her sister. On Wednesday morning, she wrote to several Beloit friends saying that she was well and having an enjoyable visit, mentioning her intention of going in to Sabetha in the afternoon. Late in the morning she went to the barn to gather eggs, and when her relatives noticed her long absence and sought her they found that death had claimed her. The suddenness of her passing is in accordance with a wish which she often expressed, that when her time came, it would be after no lingering illness or struggle, but quickly, as she was ready and prepared to go. She was a devout and faithful member of the Presbyterian church, and punctilious in the discharge of her religious ob ligations. She was a kind neighbor and will be missed in her circle of friends. The surviving relatives are her sisters, Mrs Smith, already mentioned, of Sabetha; Mrs. Retta Carman, of Houston, Texas, and Mrs. Jennie Warner, of California, and two brothers; C. L. Lockwood of Meridian Idaho and Lester Lockwood of Denver. Funeral services will be held on Sunday afternoon at four o'clock, with Rev. J. M. Oliver officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery."
