Wallace graduated from Hastings High School and attended University of Nebraska Lincoln. Wallace served in the U.S. Army from February 4, 1943 until November 8, 1945. On May 5, 1943, he married Seva B. Booker; she preceded him in death on December 1, 1994. Wallace worked as a car salesman for Laird Motors and A.H. Jones. He was a member of First Christian Church, Nebraska Golf Association, and V.F.W.
Wallace was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Seva B. Hopp; brothers, Albert "Ruff" Hopp, Johnny Hopp, Harry Hopp, and Bill Hopp; and sisters, Delores Yeager and Mary Alice Mudder.
