Stanley Howard Van Orman, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2007, at the age of 90.He was born May 15, 1917, in Taber, Alberta, Canada to John Hunter Van Orman and Melissa Collette Van Orman. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and during World War II, after which he graduated from Utah State University with a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering. He married Phyllis Afton Webster in 1941 in Cardston LDS Temple. She preceded him in death in January 1999 after 58 years of marriage. Their eldest daughter, Diane Van Orman Derrick also preceded him in death in January 1993. Stanley retired from the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), Engineering Department, after over 30 years of service. Upon his retirement, he and Afton retired to St. George where they enjoyed the golf and sunshine with many friends and relatives.
He is survived by his daughters, Shirlee Van Orman McLaren, Pamela Van Orman Hatch, and Terry Van Orman Jetter; grandchildren, Conan McLaren, Greg Griffin, Lisa Derrick, Kelsey and Jordan Jetter. Also his great granddaughter, Zoe Yahrling.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 27, 2007, at 1 p.m., at the St. George City Cemetery, under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary 435-673-4221. Condolences may be sent to the family through Metcalf's website at www.metcalfmortuary.com
