Mrs. Edith Murphy, 77, the widow of former County Highway Supt. Tom Murphy, was found dead at her home in Wayne City.

She had been in frail health and was found by her son, Leo Green, of Wayne City, who lives across the street from her.

Mrs. Murphy was born in Wayne County May 16, 1902, the daughter of Fred and Amy Tolbert Lappin. She was first married to Everett Green. During their marriage, they lived in the Wayne City area. He died in 1936.

Later, she was married to Tom Murphy and they moved to Fairfield. After his death in 1976, she moved back to Wayne City.

Mrs. Murphy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairfield.

Surviving are four sons, Carl, Berlin, Charles, and Leo Green; two brothers, Frank and Huber Lappin; two sisters, Ruby Miller and Beulah Barcelone; 12 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at Richardson's Chapel in Wayne City with burial in Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City.
