FATHER AND SON KILLED ON WAY TO ATTEND FUNERAL
A two-car collision on Highway 36, west of Mooresville Saturday morning, May 5, has claimed the lives of two men, Vincil Swank, 37, of Smithville, and his father, Guy Swank of Cameron, a former New Cambria resident. The victims were members of a group of eight persons driving to Brookfield to attend the funeral of Mrs. Guy Swank's mother, Mrs. Jennie Stufflebean, when the accident occurred.
Vincil Swank was dead on arrival at the Chillicothe hospital at about 10:30 Saturday morning, and Guy Swank died at St. Mary's Hospital in Kansas City, the following morning.
The eight persons riding in the Swank station wagon were Vincil Swank and his wife, Mrs. Helen Louise Swank, 37, of Smithville, Guy Swank, 57, his wife, Mrs. Hazel Swank, 63, Orville E. Akey, 42, and his wife, 41, and two daughters, Donna S. and Catherine 11, all of Cameron. They were all unconscious upon arrival at the Chillicothe Hospital. The other car was driven by Wilbert Treon, 19, of Utica, traveling west, who turned in front of the station wagon driven by Vincil Swank.
Funeral services for Vincil Dale Swank, 37, of Smithville, were held Tuesday afternoon, May 8, at the McComas Chapel, Smithville. Burial was in the I. O. O. F. Cemetery, Smithville.
