U.S. Congressman. He attended Xenia Academy, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1821 and practiced law in Shelby County, Ohio. He was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, (1833-35). In 1837, he was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-fifth, Twenty-sixth and Twenty-seventh Congresses, serving until 1843. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was judge of the Ohio court of common pleas, (1844-51) and was a Methodist Episcopal preacher until his death at age 64.
