Frederick George Bennett was born in Bolton le Moors, Lancaster, England to Thomas Peter Bennett and Alice Smith Hall. He attended Sanborn College and Conway College (2 year art course) in Wales. He came to the United States in 1882, and the Twelfth Census reports that his occupation was artist. He moved to Kankakee, Illinois, and bought a farm, where he met and married Missouri Belle Lane on 19 September 1897. They later moved to Chicago, where they had four children: Frank, Fred, Gladys and Helen. They moved to Hanford, California, in 1911, where he ran a boarding house. Frank and Belle were divorced; in 1929 he moved to Long Beach, California.
