Mrs. Gayer, the former Alvina Tank, was born Jan. 27, 1886, in Dageling, Schleswig, Holstein, Germany. She attended nine years of school and seamstress training in Germany before coming to the United States at the age of 19.

She married Fred Gayer on Jan. 27, 1909, in Sioux County. The couple farmed southwest of Rock Valley until retiring and moving into Rock Valley in 1945. Mr. Gayer died Dec. 7, 1948. Mrs. Gayer entered Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sept. of 1983.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid Society.

Survivors include two sons, Fred and Robert, both of Rock Valley; eight daughters, Mrs. Anton (Martha) Gerlach, of Rock Rapids; Mrs. Charley (Emma) Moeller, of Inwood; Mrs. Roy (Minnie) Bauder, Mrs. Edwin (Louise) Heuer, and Mrs. Ann Wasser, all of Hawarden, Mrs. Art (Esther) Bauder, of Sioux Center; Mrs. Dorothy Jones, of San Diego, CA, and Mrs. Jerry (Marcia) Heiden, of Osage; 32 grandchildren, 84 great-grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
