Larry the son of Ellsworh M. and Doris E. W. Graham of Spokane WA enlisted in the US Marine Corps on September 27, 1968. He arrived in Vietnam on April 9, 1969 and was assigned to Company M, 3d Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

During Operation OKLAHOMA HILLS in Hiep Duc District, an accident occurred back at rear M Company Command Post on Hill 10. Three men who were posted on the defensive perimeter for security watch were killed by an accidental detonation of a Claymore mine during instructions on placing and arming the device. One of the casualties was PFC Graham who died of multiple fragmentation wounds from the friendly device.
