He was the husband of Elaine Benner Alexander, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.
Born in Lumberton, N.C., he was the son of the late James F. and Lulu Frances Spivey Alexander, Sr.
James was a 1939 graduate of Shelby High School in North Carolina and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was employed by Capital Bakers in Westwood and New Idea Laundry.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and the Odd Fellows Lodge.
Surviving him, in addition to his wife, Elaine, are a son, James F. Alexander III, husband of Sue of West Chester; two sisters, Margaret Porter and Dorothy Vickers; and two granddaughters, Laura and Maria.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 107 S. 17th Ave., Coatesville, PA 19320.
Family and friends may call at the church beginning at 10 a.m.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Coatesville.
