DAVENPORT - Kenneth H. Kreiter, 83, of rural Davenport, Iowa, and recently a resident of the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Davenport, died on Monday, January 31, 2011, at Good Samaritan.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 5, 2011, at the Chambers Funeral Home of Eldridge, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 11 a.m. to 1p.m. Saturday. Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Nursing Center or the Iowa Nature Conservancy.

He was born November 29, 1927, in Davenport, the son of Henry and Roma (Wiese) Kreiter. On November 27, 1947, he was united in marriage to Rosalee E. DeWulf in Long Grove, Iowa. He later married Anna White in Eldridge, Iowa, on March 6, 1981. She preceded him in death on February 18, 2009.

Ken was employed by the Central Scott Telephone Company of Eldridge, first as a lineman and later as a supervisor. He retired after 32 years of faithful service. In earlier years, Ken farmed the family farm and hauled grain and gravel.

He was an avid boater and fisherman and enjoyed life on the Mississippi. At one time Ken owned a second home in McGregor, Iowa, and spent many trips visiting there and fishing the river and its backwaters. Ken also loved hunting and was an accomplished trap shooter.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Kathy Davies and her husband Edward of McGregor, Iowa, and Shelley Kreiter and her husband, Patrick of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; his sons, Russell Kreiter and his wife, Janet of Iowa City, Iowa, and Jon Kreiter and his wife, Kathy of West Branch, Iowa; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his sister, Shirley (Donald) Baustian of Davenport; and his second wife Anna's children, Earl Kreiter, Mike Porter, Ivan Porter, Tracy Porter, Cathy Corwin, and Cheryl Porter.

In addition to his wife, Ken was preceded in death by his son, Steven Matthew Kreiter, his daughter, Nancy Ann Kreiter, and his brother, Jack Kreiter.
