Named after his father, Eusebius was third born, yet first son, of twelve children. His mother was Margaret Linnen of Georgetown, Maine.

Initially, Eusebius was married to Susan Knowles McKenzie. After becoming widowed, he and Susanna Knowles Wass, Susan's first cousin, married on April 14, 1833. Susanna became stepmother to her husband and cousin's young children, Henry C. (1829-1862, Civil War Death) and Stillman McKenzie (1831-1908). How does one cope with the loss of a wife and three toddlers?

Eusebius and Susanna's first daughter, Phebe, immigrated to Palestine with her husband, Andrew Roger Tabbut. Historically their community is known as the American Colony in Jaffa. As supportive parents, Eusebius and Susanna must have instilled courage and conviction in their daughter in order for her to follow her dreams and blaze a trail. The Emerson's understood the value of life. They were people of faith.
