EAST LONGMEADOW - Carmen William Picknally, 80, of East Longmeadow, passed away Friday August 4th at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in East Orange, NJ to the late William and Vinice (Nanini) Picknally, he lived in East Longmeadow for 49 years. Carmen was a U.S. Navy veteran during WW II, seeing combat in the battles of Leyte, Mindoro, Lingayen, and Okinawa. He received the WW II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal-3stars and the Philippine Liberation Medal-2stars. Carmen also received the Philippine Liberation and Independence Medals. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church in East Longmeadow, a past commander of American Legion post 293 in East Longmeadow, a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers since 1982, and a consultant for the World Bank in 1993, when he visited Russia and evaluated the Russian Bus Industry after the cold war to evaluate what loans should be approved. Carmen worked for Peter Pan Bus Lines for 60 years, acting as vice-president for the past 40 years. He was predeceased by his wife, Frances "Nancy" T. (Devine) Picknally in 1996. He is survived by his four children, Elizabeth A. Cunningham and her husband Guy of Hillsborough, NJ, Nancy R. Cassista and her husband Michael of Millbury, MA, Carmen W. Picknally, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Longmeadow, and Thomas J. Picknally and his wife Cynthia of East Longmeadow; his sister, Jean Montana of East Longmeadow; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to meet on Tuesday August 8th at 9:30AM in the Hafey East Longmeadow Chapels, 120 Shaker Rd., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11AM in St. Michael's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Westfield. Calling hours will be held on Monday August 7th from 2-4 & 6-8PM.
