Obituary, San Bernardino Sun (San Bernardino, CA.)
Sept. 17, 2005
EDWIN C. RELPH passed away September 4, 2005 in Redlands, CA. at age 97, joining Vera, his wife of 76 years, who died eight months earlier.
Born May 2, 1908 in Peru, Kansas, Ed migrated at age 6 to California. Riding in an old Mitchell car with his parents and five siblings, he arrived in Alta Loma, then known as Lamosa, and spent the greater part of his life in the Inland Empire.
Ed met his lovely wife, Vera Perdew, while working, picking up milk at her father's farm. Ed eventually made his life's work the foundry business, first at General Electric in Ontario, then Warmon Steel in Vernon, and retiring 45 years later from Hanford Foundry in San Bernardino after working his way up to company President. Ed and Vera spent retirement as avid RVers, fishing and enjoying the company of family and friends, often spending months at a time in Smith River, a favorite haunt near the Oregon border.
Ed was practical, patient, and energetic, a good soul with a resolute will, a do-it-yourself spirit, and a green thumb. His amaryllis and tulips were the envy of everyone. People often stopped to take photographs of the gorgeous blossoms. He exercised daily, walking as far as he could, right up till the day he died.
Ed is survived by a daughter, a son, five grandchildren;
five great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
A private funeral service celebrating the long and happy life of this great, great-grandfather, loving husband and supportive father was attended by family and friends.
