Shirley C. Burks, 79, of Sylvian passed away Sunday December 8, 2013 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday Dec. 11th at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Bridges and Rev. Susan Butler officiating. Burial will follow in the Detroit cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1 hour prior to service from 10 until 11 a.m.
Shirley was born November 26, 1934 in Clarksville, TX a daughter of Rush and Francis Martin Carter. She married Tommie Burks on Sept. 4, 1954 in Clarksville. She was employed by Red River Bank in Clarksville for many years. She was a member of the Methodist Church of Detroit.
She is survived by daughters Terri Whitley and husband Mike, Tammi Chockpoyah; grandchildren Shane Whitley, Ambrye Pedone, Ashley Watson, Brooks Bailey, and Brittney Anderson; a sister Virginia Browning and a sister-in-law Martha Lou Nicholas.
She was preceded in death by her husband Tommie Burks.
Pallbearers will be John Watson, Lee Pedone, Dale Miller, Kevin Miller, Harold Blackburn, and Chuck Brannan.
