DANIEL M. MCLAUGHLIN, 53, DIES

Daniel M. (Dan) McLaughlin, 53, 616 Adams SW, died suddenly Monday afternoon of a heart attack while hauling snow after hand loading it onto a truck.

He was driving his pickup north on Pennsylvania when he suffered the attack on the Willow Creek bridge. His companion and helper, Dennis Paulus, 18, Rockford, turned off the ignition and stopped the truck.

Mr. McLaughlin was taken to a hospital by ambulance and was pronounced dead by Dr. J.E. Christopherson, county medical examiner.

Born Dec. 19, 1908, at Rockwell, Mr. McLaughlin was the son of Anthony John and Martha (Washington) McLaughlin. He attended Sacred Heart Academy at Rockwell and entered the U.S. Army in 1940. He served with H.G. Trp. 113th Cav. G.P. and held the E.A.M.E. Theater Ribbon, the Bronze Star, American Theater Ribbon, American Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Ribbon.

Mr. McLaughlin was discharged Oct. 30, 1945. He was employed by the Milwaukee Road and since 1951 had been employed by Petersen Roofing and Insulation, Inc.

He was married to Betty J. Englet, July 10, 1942, at Brown County, Texas.

Surviving are his wife: four sons, Daniel Jr., Michael, John, and Robert, all at home; four daughters, Mrs. Lyle (Patricia) Boehmer, Fredericksburg, and Mary, Veronica and Victoria at home, and one granddaughter. Four brothers, John, Swaledale, George and Ralph, Mason City, and Raymond, Dougherty; and four sisters, Mrs. Charles (Agnes) Tabor, Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Arthur (Ida) Wike, Des Moines, Mrs. William (Esther) Wike, Mason City, and Mrs. Henry (Julia) Theilen, Marble Rock, also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.

Mr. McLaughlin was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Visitation will be at the Hogan-McKee Colonial Chapel after 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Tabernacle Society Rosary has been set for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and the parish Rosary at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Elmwood St. Joseph's Cemetery.
