Ida May King was born October 30, 1866 to William and Ruth A. King. Her father was born in Virginia and her mother was born in Tennessee. Ida May was born in Illinois and at the age of thirteen the family was living in Thebes. Ida had an older sister named Alice and her younger siblings were Louella, Ancydell, Arthur and Victoria. Ida married James F. Palmer on June 24, 1888 in Alexander County, Illinois. He was born June 22, 1864 and died October 19, 1937. To this union three daughters and one son was born: Myrtle, who married Alexander C. Provo and who taught school for 45 years; Bessie, who married John Lloyd Knupp; Lora, who married Claude Allen; and George, who live his adult life in Bessemer, Alabama. Mrs. Palmer celebrated her 100th birthday on October 30, 1966. In her latter years, she made her home with her daughter, Myrtle, in Elco. She was in good health until she broke her hip in 1969. She died on April 14, 1969 at Cape Girardeau, MO at the age of 102. She was buried beside her husband in the McCrite Cemetery near Tamms. At the time of her death she was survived by four children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
