John Flatt born, Feb. 15, 1815, in Kentucky. The 1873 Atlas of Greene County states born in Kentucky. 1815 appears to be the correct date or at least neared the correct date. His father purchased land in Wayne County, Ill. in 1818. If he was born in Kentucky, it would have been before 1818.
He married 1st, on April 11, 1839, to Elizabeth Garrison, a dau. of Matthew & Hannah (Doyle) Garrison. Eight children by this marriage; William S. "Redney", Daniel, James H., Damon Edward, Gregg, Matthew, John and a dau. Laura Ann who married Hiram Snyder. His son, Daniel Flatt, names these children in the 1905 history of Greene County, Illinos.
He married 2nd, on Feb. 4, 1868, to Martha Chapman, dau. of George & Susan (Emory) Chapman and they had children; Angeline, Harriet "Hattie", Adeline Susan, and a son George Lasher Flatt. John Flatt died in Bluffdale township, Greene County, Illinois.
