She entered this world accompanied by her identical twin sister, Teri, who has and will always cherish their close friendship and being twins.
Cheri has two wonderful sons whom she loved dearly: Adam (Amanda) Stevenson of Philo and Nicholas (Kayla) Stevenson of Danville; and a step-son, Dennis (Carrie) Stevenson of Bloomington, Ill. She has adorable grandchildren whom she treasured and loved deeply: Ava and Atticus of California, Mallory and Macy of Bloomington, and Reagan, Karson, Madisen, Kaelyn and Brookelyn all of Danville.
She also is survived by two brothers, Billy (Debbie) Andrews of Madison, Ind., and Mark (Sharon) Fitzgerald of Decatur, Ill.; four sisters, Sandy (Arlen) Ackerman of Urbana, Teri (Michael) Nelson of Danville, Andrea (Brian) Rosnett of Hillsdale, Ind., and Susie (Frank) Weddle of Danville. She also has several nieces and nephews whom she adores.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Joe Fitzgerald.
Cheri graduated from Monticello High School in 1977. She then attended Lakeview School of Nursing, where she graduated from in 1980. After graduating, she went to work at the VA, where she worked in the Extended Care Services, Ambulatory Care Services and the Communication Center. She was employed as a registered nurse at the VA Illiana Health Care System for 28 years. She loved working for our veterans.
Over the years, she made many friends with her co-workers. For three years, she worked at the Vermilion Manor Nursing Home as their assistant director of nursing.
Cheri enjoyed riding her Harley, crocheting, scrapbooking, collecting Vera Bradley and Longaberger baskets. Cheri enjoyed sister Saturdays and shopping with her sisters. She also enjoyed a family trip to Disney World last summer. Her sister Teri, and treasured friend, Mary Roesel, enjoyed trips together and especially their birthday weekend Columbus Day to Sarasota, Fla.
Cheri especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was very instrumental in encouraging her grandchildren to enjoy reading as much as she did. Cheri enjoyed riding her pontoon boat up the river relaxing and observing the wildlife.
We will all miss Cheri each and every day for the rest of our lives. We all loved her dearly.
